Bio
Evan Chancellor serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Lakeland University, where he directs the Lakeland Symphonic Band and Muskie Pride Marching Band.  Dr. Chancellor also teaches applied Horn, as well as courses in music history, conducting, and music education.  He previously held teaching positions at Oklahoma Baptist University, East Central University, Oral Roberts University, and public schools in Oklahoma and Texas.  In the summers, Chancellor teaches at Lakeland Music Camp in Wisconsin and Hummingbird Music Camp in New Mexico.

Devoted to working with young musicians, Dr. Chancellor has served on the facutly of El Sistema Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma Homeschool Band program, and has been a clinician for the Sheboygan Area Youth Symphony, Oklahoma Youth Orchestras, and Tulsa Youth Symphony.  His private students have been selected as members of All-State ensembles in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico.  The focus of his teaching is to provide a strong technique foundation while adapting to the specific needs and goals of the individual student.  Whether they are playing for fun, trying out for all-state, or entering the profession, Dr. Chancellor works tirelessly to equip students with the methodology and resources they will need to succeed. 
 
Chancellor is a founding member of the Frontier Brass Band and the Oklahoma Haydn
Festival and was featured as a concerto soloist with the Haydn Festival in 2014 and 2017. 
He has also performed with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra,
Sheboygan Sympony Orchestra, Signature Symphony, Enid Symphony, North Texas
Chamber Orchestra and the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas as well as the orchestra
of the Eisenstadt Classical Music Festival. He has appeared with diverse artists including
Pink Martini, Il Volo, the Byron Berline Band, Edgar Cruz and Nobuyuki Tsujii and has
collaborated with composers including Frank Tichelli, Randol Bass, Libby Larsen and
Michael Daugherty. Chancellor has been featured as solo horn of the North Texas Brass
Band, lead mellophone with the Edmond Jazz Orchestra and has performed with a wide
variety of chamber ensembles including the Boulevard Brass Quintet and the Blackwelder
Brass.  In addition to the horn, Evan enjoys playing the guitar as well as a variety of historical and folk instruments.

Dr. Chancellor is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Collegiate Band Directors National Association, International Horn Society, American Federation of Musicians, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi.  Chancellor received his Bachelors in Music Education from the University of North Texas, where he studied horn with William Scharnberg and conducting with Brad Genevro and Dennis Fisher.  He earned a Masters in Horn Performance at Oklahoma City University, where he studied with Kate Pritchett, and went on to complete a Doctorate in Horn Performance at the University of Oklahoma, where he studied with Eldon Matlick and Haley Hoops.  He pursued additional study with mentors including Elliot Higgins, Dale Clevenger, Julie Landsman, Randy Gardner, Lydia Van Dreel, Jeff Nelsen, and Brian O’Connor.
